TSP Starts Year with Losses
Every TSP fund except the bond F fund and government securities G fund started 2010 with a loss, with the international stock I fund falling 5.17 percent in January, the small company stock S fund down 2.43 percent and the large company stock C fund down 3.6 percent. Over the last 12 months, however, the funds are up by 40.01, 43.31 and 33.33 percent, respectively, an improvement over even the strong calendar year 2009 gains because last month's results dislodged from the counts an even worse January 2009, when the stock funds lost between roughly 8 and 12 percent. The F fund gained 1.54 percent last month and the G fund 0.29 percent, for 12-month gains of 8.56 and 3.08 percent. The monthly and 12-month returns for the lifecycle funds were: income, -0.45, 10; 2010, -.58, 12.33; 2020, -2.03, 23.63; 2030, -2.49, 27.99; 2040, -2.88, 31.68.
