GAO Examines ALJ Hiring Issues
GAO recently examined the government's method of hiring administrative law judges, one of the few occupations where the old centralized hiring register approach is still used, with OPM compiling a list of eligible persons and referring candidates to employing agencies. It found that while agencies generally are satisfied with the quality of candidates, they have some reservations about the system.
